Tree & Plant Root Removal From Drains
Root ingress from trees and plants is one of the most common causes of a blocked drain.
Roots are attracted to drain pipes as they provide a constant source of water and moisture necessary for survival, and if the roots have penetrated the drain pipe, over time, they will continue to grow, and eventually cause a blockage.
It’s important that any root ingress within your drains is dealt with quickly. If left for too long, the roots will continue to grow and potentially cause more serious problems such as cracks, holes or joint displacement.

Removing Roots From Drains
Thankfully, if root ingress/penetration is dealt with promptly, it’s typically a quick problem to rectify. We have a variety of tools at our disposal to remove roots from drains.
First we need to identify the cause and location of the blockage, this is typically done by carrying out a CCTV drain survey. We will place a state of the art camera into your drainage system which offers a real-time view of the condition of your pipe work. Once we have identified that the blockage is being caused by root ingress, we can gauge the severity of the problem and provide you with the most cost effective solution.
For smaller root intrusions, oftentimes high pressure water jetting is enough to remove the roots and clear the drain. Once the roots have been removed we can then clear any other deposits or build ups within the pipework.
For larger roots, or root build ups that are just too large to be cleared with water jetting, we use electro-mechanical removal methods. This involves inserting a rotating steel cable with specialist attachments to cut away the tree roots and cleat the blockage.
Once the root blockage has been removed from your drain, we will send our CCTV drain surveying equipment back down your drain to make sure the blockage is cleared satisfactorily and to check for any damage that may have been caused by the root ingress. If we do spot any potential problems, such as holes or cracks, we will provide you with the most cost-effective solution to get your drainage system back in full working order.
